Seems he must be a good employee as the company to wants to keep him. It is wise for a company to have a substance abuse policy which outlines that positive drug screens can result in disciplinary actions, including termination. Our policy requires employees to attend treatment programs. If the employee does not agree to comply then that would be considered a violation of the employment agreement and the employee is termed. The focus is on helping the employee get well through treatment. However, a written warning letter outling expected performance which includes future negative drug screens should be enough of a motivation to keep this employee on the right track. If not, then it may be time to consider parting ways.
